Leadership Development Program

Engineering Leadership Development Program

Design Assignments
The purpose of the three-year Engineering Leadership Development Program (ELDP) is to develop technical leaders by giving Program members a broad range of assignments designed to develop their skills and experience. Typically the Program member chooses three, ten-month long, design assignments at the main Laboratory and two, two-month long, assignments at other KAPL business locations.

Education
As part of the ELDP, all participants are required to successfully complete the requirements for a Masters degree in Engineering within three years at area schools such as Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or Union College. Expenses such as tuition, books and associated administrative costs are paid for by KAPL. Program participants also attend a week-long Leadership Development Conference each year they are in the Program. These conferences are sponsored by Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation specifically for LDPs.

Selection Requirements
Candidates for the ELDP are chosen directly from college and are selected for their academic accomplishments, creativity, demonstrated on and off-campus leadership activities, communications ability, as well as the design needs of the Laboratory. If you have a B.S. Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear or Materials Engineering and think you are ready to accept the challenge of becoming a member of our engineering team, we would like to meet you.

Financial Leadership Development Program

Assignments
The purpose of the three-year Financial Leadership Development Program (FLDP) is to develop financial and business leaders within the Laboratory. The Program offers participants a chance to experience several different assignments within KAPL. Typically a member experiences four different KAPL assignments during the three years of the Program.

Education
All members of the KAPL FLDP are required to complete an MBA degree at the nearby Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, College of St. Rose, SUNY Albany or Union College as part of the Program. Expenses such as tuition, books and associated administrative costs are paid for by KAPL. Program participants also attend a week-long Leadership Development Conference each year they are in the Program.

Selection Requirements
Candidates for the FLDP are chosen directly from college and are selected for their academic achievements, demonstrated on and off-campus leadership activities and teamwork and communications ability. If you have a B.S. in Business Administration and would like to join our FLDP team, we would like to talk to you!
